Tips

Sponsored 7 Mile Emley Moor Mast to 32 WOODEND RD LOWER HOPTON Sunday 12th September 2010

1. Remember to wear stout, comfortable footwear – ensure you can walk a distance in your footwear, heels are not advisable, i.e. ensure they are suitable for seven miles!

2. If the weather looks poor it may be worth bringing along a waterproof coat.

3. Bring a spare layer of clothing to put on in case you feel cold.

4.If the weather is hot and sunny it is advisable to bring sun protection and to reapply this on a regular basis. A sun hat may also be advisable.

5.Wear something light coloured as this means you can be seen more easily by traffic passing by.

6. Eat a hearty breakfast!

7. Drink along the route regularly, refreshments including water, will be provided at the two stop points.

8. Try to walk within the group (i.e. between the marshals with hi-visibility vests on), this means we stay safe together. Always check in at the stop points so we know you’re safe.

9. Always listen to what our marshals advise you to do – if they ask you to cross the road please do so – the route has been planned with your safety in mind.

10. Please be careful when walking on roads – always walk on the side of the road where you can see the traffic coming towards you – never walk with your back to on-coming traffic. Cross over when you are about to reach the inside of a bend.

11. Where there is little or no pavement walk in single file.

12. Please discard of rubbish in litter bins or at the stop points provided.

13. This is not a race – we are out for a pleasurable walk – please enjoy the walk and if you need to rest please do so.

14. If you have a mobile phone please bring it along and store the contact number of the organizer in case you need help – the signal reception on the route is very good. The number and a further map will be issued at the meeting point on the day of the walk.
